Description
“What is your gender made of?” — join our collage lab in Tallinn with Maria Kapajeva Whatever you think about gender, it's part of our lives. Today, gender often becomes the subject of heated debates and political discussions. Yet behind these broad concepts and loud debates are real people with very different experiences — including cisgender, transgender, non-binary and other people. Their experiences, sense of self and relationships with gender roles can vary greatly. But what does it mean to call yourself one thing or another? What do these definitions give us, and how might they limit us? What can we learn about our own experiences and those of others if we look at gender from different perspectives? For this complex conversation, we turn to art. Together with artist Maria Kapajeva (she/they), we will create collages — both collectively and individually. Through the practice of collage, we will have an opportunity to reflect, ask questions and share ideas — even when we haven’t yet found the words to express them. This workshop is open to anyone interested in exploring the topic of gender, regardless of their personal experience or views. It is intended for cisgender, transgender and non-binary people, as well as anyone who does not identify with these categories or is still figuring things out. No previous artistic experience is required. We will experiment together and see what our collages turn into. Come ready for unexpected discoveries, respectful of other people’s views and experiences, and willing to have some fun together! 🕙 31 October, Saturday, 14:00–17:00 📍Tallinn, Marati tn 5-2, Põhjala tehas, Sepikoda Superstuudio building, 2nd floor 🗣 Language: English 🎟️ Free, registration required.
