Description
The theme of Tivoli is nostalgia — a feeling simultaneously deeply personal and universally understood. Nostalgic longing is shaped by each person's lived experiences, yet it is equally a collective social construct. This makes nostalgia a sword with more than two edges. It can heal the soul, but it can also poison it. When used in moderation, it can provide insights into oneself. When taken to excess, however, it cuts one off from the world. No matter how comforting it may be to wrap oneself in it, nostalgia is not much of a substitute for reality. In Siim Tõniste’s new production, the audience finds itself in a changing world. Both the performers and the audience contribute to its transformation. Siim Tõniste has worked across a wide range of roles as a performer, choreographer, director, dramaturge, producer, curator, and educator. His artistic practice is rooted in collaboration, and he has created numerous works in close partnership with other artists in Estonia. Alongside creating his own work, he is interested in production and curation as creative practices that shape how art is experienced and understood. _______________________________________________ Lavastaja: Siim Tõniste Performers: Üüve-Lydia Toompere , Reinis Boters , Marla Burroughs , Siim Tõniste Sound design: Joonatan Kivi Light design: Raimond Danilov Stage design: Anita Kremm Assistants: Aine Barbora Rutkutė , Anett-Marii Siiman , Freia Oru Dramaturge: Heneliis Notton Technical solutions: Marko Odar , Jaagup Mägi , Eric Oliver Theriault Raymond Project manager: Kaie Küünal Residency support: European Festivals Fund for Emerging Artists - EFFEA, Polis Teatro Festival, Sirenos Festival Co-production: Kanuti Gildi SAAL, Vaba Vorm
